Why, in My Opinion, Warren Hill Is the Best Place for a Family Lifestyle Session in Newmarket

Warren Hill holds a special place in my heart.

Warren Hill holds a very special place in my heart.

It’s somewhere my own family and I return to often — for quiet walks, flying a kite, or simply taking a moment to pause and enjoy the views across Newmarket and the surrounding villages. Standing at the top of the hill, watching the town below and the sky change as the sun begins to set, always feels a little bit magical. The light becomes soft and warm, and everything slows down.

Over the years, I’ve explored many locations around Newmarket, and from my personal experience, Warren Hill stands out. While other areas can feel busy or crowded, Warren Hill offers a wonderful sense of openness and calm. Being up on the hill, surrounded by wide skies and open space, gives a feeling of freedom — a chance to step away from the pace of everyday life and simply be together.

That’s why it’s my favourite local location for outdoor Family Lifestyle Sessions.

Warren Hill provides space for children to run freely, for parents to relax, and for families to naturally connect. The open landscape and beautiful light create the perfect backdrop for photographs that feel natural, joyful, and full of genuine emotion.

A typical family lifestyle session lasts around 45–60 minutes. During that time, we’ll walk together, chat, and stop at a few carefully chosen spots along the way. I’ll photograph both the gentle, still moments and the movement in between — those natural interactions as you walk, laugh, and play together often become the most meaningful images.

I’ll gently guide you when needed, encouraging closeness and interaction, but my approach is always relaxed and natural. There will be plenty of laughter, playful moments, and genuine connection. While I may ask you to look towards the camera occasionally, most of the session is about you focusing on each other — holding hands, cuddling, playing, and simply enjoying the time together.

The result is a beautiful mix of family portraits and individual moments — a collection of images filled with warmth, light, and the story of your family, captured in a place that truly feels special.

If you’re looking for a family lifestyle photographer in Newmarket, Suffolk, and love the idea of relaxed, natural photos in a beautiful outdoor setting, Warren Hill may be the perfect location for your session. To learn more about family photography sessions in Newmarket or to book your own lifestyle shoot, feel free to get in touch — I’d love to photograph your family in this special place.

What to Wear for Your Photography Session

One of the most common questions I receive before a session is, “What should we wear?”

One of the most common questions I receive before a session is, “What should we wear?”
It’s a great question — and the answer is simpler than you might think.

The most important thing to remember is this: your clothing should feel comfortable and feel like you. When you’re at ease, your movements are natural, your expressions soften, and the genuine connection between you shines through in your photographs.

Comfort Above All

Whether your session is maternity, newborn, or family-focused, comfort is key. Choose outfits you can move in easily — sitting, cuddling, walking, and playing. If something feels restrictive or unfamiliar, it can make you feel self-conscious, and that can show in the images.

When you feel relaxed, your photos will reflect that beautifully.

Coordinate, Don’t Match

Rather than dressing everyone in identical outfits, aim to coordinate colours and tones. A soft, cohesive palette photographs far more naturally and allows each person’s personality to come through.

Neutral and muted tones work especially well, such as:

  • Creams, beiges, soft browns

  • Greys, muted blues, sage, soft blush

  • Earthy tones and gentle pastels

Mixing textures — knits, linen, cotton — adds depth and warmth without distracting from the moment.

Keep It Simple & Timeless

I recommend avoiding large logos, bold graphics, and very busy or high-contrast patterns. These can draw attention away from faces and connection.

Simple, classic clothing helps your images remain timeless — photographs you’ll love just as much years from now.

Let Your True Self Shine

While coordination helps create harmony, your session should still reflect you. If you feel most confident in a flowing dress, wear one. If jeans and a soft jumper feel more natural, that’s perfect too.

Your images are not about perfection — they are about capturing your bond, your emotions, and the unique way your family connects.

Natural Details Matter

Bare feet often photograph beautifully and add a relaxed, intimate feel to your session. Keep accessories minimal, makeup natural, and hair softly styled. Small details — tiny hands, gentle touches, quiet moments — are what truly bring your images to life.

I’m Always Here to Help

If you’re unsure about outfit choices, you’re never on your own. You’re very welcome to send me photos of potential outfits before your session, and I’ll happily guide you so everything feels cohesive and effortless.

At the heart of every session is connection — the way you hold your baby, the way you look at each other, the laughter and the calm in between. When you feel comfortable and confident, those moments unfold naturally, creating photographs you’ll treasure for years to come. Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

What to Expect From a Newborn Photography Session

Welcoming a new baby is one of the most emotional and overwhelming times in life.

Welcoming a new baby is one of the most emotional and overwhelming times in life. Between sleepless nights, feeding routines, and learning your baby’s cues, the idea of a photoshoot can sometimes feel like just one more thing to think about.

That’s why my newborn photography sessions are designed to be calm, gentle, and completely baby-led — so you can relax and simply enjoy this special moment with your little one.

If you’re wondering what a newborn session is really like, here’s what you can expect.

A Calm, Unhurried Experience

Newborn sessions usually last between two and three hours. This might sound like a long time, but it’s intentional.

Your baby sets the pace.
There is plenty of time for:

  • feeding

  • cuddling

  • soothing

  • nappy changes

There’s never any rushing, and no expectation for your baby to “perform”. Some babies sleep deeply, others like to stretch, feed, or stay awake — all of this is completely normal and all of it can be beautifully photographed.

A Baby-Led Approach

Your baby’s comfort and safety always come first.

I gently guide the session based on your baby’s mood, needs, and natural movements. If your baby needs feeding or settling, we pause. If they prefer to be held, we adapt. This relaxed approach helps babies feel secure — and often leads to the most natural, heartfelt images.

You don’t need to worry about whether your baby will cry or settle. I have over five years of experience working with newborns and understand that every baby is different.

What You Need to Bring (Very Little!)

Everything you need for your newborn session is provided.

I have a small collection of soft wraps, simple props, and neutral textures that photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby. You’re very welcome to bring a sentimental item if you’d like — such as a blanket or teddy — but it’s absolutely not required.

For parents, simple, neutral clothing works best. I’ll always guide you beforehand if you’d like advice on what to wear.

Including Parents and Siblings

Newborn sessions aren’t just about your baby — they’re about your family.

You’re encouraged to be part of the session, whether that’s gentle cuddles, holding your baby close, or quiet moments together. These images often become some of the most treasured.

If you have older siblings, they’re welcome too. I keep sibling moments relaxed and pressure-free, allowing children to be themselves rather than forcing poses.

A Comfortable Studio Environment

Sessions take place in my calm, private studio, designed to feel warm and welcoming. Soft lighting, a peaceful atmosphere, and a gentle pace help both babies and parents feel at ease.

Many parents tell me they arrive feeling nervous — and leave feeling relaxed, reassured, and grateful for the quiet moment to slow down during such a busy time.

After Your Session

Around two weeks after your session, you’ll receive a beautifully edited online gallery. From there, you can take your time choosing your favourite images and selecting the collection that feels right for you.

Once your selections are made, your final images are delivered promptly, ready to be downloaded, printed, and treasured.

A Final Thought

Your baby will only be this small once.

A newborn photography session isn’t about perfection — it’s about preserving the tiny details, the tender connections, and the feeling of those first days together. The photographs we create become part of your family’s story, something you’ll look back on for years to come.

If you’re considering a newborn session and would like to learn more, I’d be very happy to hear from you.

Why Lifestyle Photography Is About Connection, Not Perfect Posing

What if my children don’t behave?

One of the most common worries parents share before a family lifestyle photography session is this:

“What if my children don’t behave?”

It’s a completely natural concern — especially if you’re used to seeing posed family portraits where everyone is smiling at the camera and standing still. But lifestyle photography is different. It’s not about perfect posing. It’s about connection.

Real Families Aren’t Still — and That’s the Beauty of Lifestyle Photography

Family life is full of movement, laughter, noise, and emotion. Children wiggle, explore, and express themselves freely. Parents comfort, guide, laugh, and hold their little ones close.

Lifestyle family photography embraces all of this.

Rather than asking children to sit still or forcing smiles, I encourage families to interact naturally — to walk together, hold hands, talk, laugh, cuddle, and simply be. These genuine moments are what bring photographs to life and tell the true story of your family.

Why Connection Creates More Meaningful Family Photographs

When families are focused on one another instead of the camera, something special happens.

Children relax.
Parents soften.
Moments unfold naturally.

The result is a gallery filled with emotion — not just what your family looked like, but how it felt to be together at that moment in time. These images tend to age beautifully, becoming more meaningful with each passing year.

Gentle Guidance, Not Rigid Posing

Lifestyle photography doesn’t mean no guidance at all.

Throughout your outdoor family photography session, I gently guide you with simple prompts and direction — suggesting where to stand, how to move, or when to pause — while leaving space for natural interaction. This balance allows your images to feel both flattering and authentic, without ever feeling stiff or staged.

You’ll still have those lovely moments where everyone looks towards the camera, but they’re woven naturally into the session rather than forced.

What If My Children Are Shy, Energetic, or Emotional?

Every child is different — and that’s exactly how it should be.

Some children are full of energy, others are quieter and need time to warm up. Some days are emotional. Family lifestyle photography sessions are designed to work with your children, not against them.

There’s no pressure for anyone to perform or behave in a certain way. In fact, those in-between moments — a child seeking comfort, a shared laugh, a spontaneous hug — often become the most cherished images of all.

Letting Go of Perfection in Family Photography

Perfectly posed photographs may look polished, but they often lack depth.

Lifestyle photography invites you to let go of perfection and embrace what’s real. The wind in your hair, the muddy shoes, the laughter that interrupts a “perfect” moment — these are the details that make your photographs uniquely yours.

Years from now, it won’t matter whether everyone was smiling at the same time. What will matter is that the photographs remind you of the love, connection, and energy of your family at that stage of life.

A Final Thought

Your family doesn’t need to be perfect to be photographed beautifully.

Lifestyle family photography is about capturing the way you love, connect, and move through life together — just as you are. Those honest moments, full of warmth and emotion, are what turn photographs into memories you’ll treasure forever.

If you’re considering a family lifestyle photography session and would love an experience that feels relaxed, natural, and meaningful, I’d be very happy to welcome you.
